Pope Is Named to A DHS Executive Post

Dr. Myron Pope has been named chief of strategic planning of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, The Black Chronicle has learned.

Previously, he was vice president of student affairs at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

Earlier, Dr. Pope was a member of the Oklahoma Human Rights Commission.

“I was a commissioner for DHS during its last year of existence and I served as the chairman of the Administration Citizens Advisory Panel,” the newly-named DHS executive said in a statement.

“These experiences, in addition to other efforts with DHS in other capacities, provide me with a broad sense of the agency and its operations,” he added.

Dr. Pope has more than 25 years higher education administrative experience, having served in executive roles related to legislative matters.

He said, as he takes on his new position, he is confident his background in governmental relations, as well as his work with advocacy groups, will help the state welfare agency as it strives for transparency, accountability and customer service.

In his newposition, Dr. Pope said he will work with DHS providers and others to execute his marketing and communications plan for the agency.

He has been a member of the boards of directors of the Edmond Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma Teachers Retirement Fund, the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County, the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and the Urban League of Greater Metropolitan Oklahoma City.

In addition, he has served on the boards of the Hope Center of Edmond.
